I haven't been able to get anything done for the last three days. Well, a few things, in between niece naps and feedings. It began this summer with the return of Superman to the movies. My older niece had never seen any of the Supermans. As a treat, my sister brought them to see Superman Returns. Upon my niece's return from the movies, she was interested in seeing Superman I and II. I, being the "nice" uncle, brought out the two movies from my DVD collection and we watched...well, the first one at least. It so happens that the baby niece was in the room. Little did I know, that would spell doom for me.... The baby niece is obssessed with the man of steal. First thing she's said to me every morning is "Superman!!!" "Yes, Emily. Superman..." after a pause, she says "Watch Superman!" ... "Emily, please, we've watched Superman all day yesterday!" .... "Watch Superman!!!" ... "No, please..." "Watch Superman!" I would sit on the couch. She'd pounce and proclaim, "Watch Superman!" ... I would sit on the floor trying to pack. She'd barge her way to my lap and scream, "Watch Superman!" That's what I've been doing... I've watched both Superman I and II a gazillion times. BUT, only the Superman parts. The baby niece screams when the Man of Steal is not on the screen. "General Zod, would you please step outside?" ... "You've got me? Whose go you???"... "Kneal before ZOD!!!" I am memorizing the lines cus I hear them over and over and over and over. I can't get her intersted in anything else. She's relentless. I tried Spider-man this morning... "Watch SUPERMAN!!!" she'd responded. AND, she can't watch alone. "JJJJJOOOOEEEEE, sit down!" She is unmoving on that respect as well. .... I am going crazy! CRAZY!!!!! I can't see the letter "S" without feeling nausea. I can't escape. She comes with her doodle pad (similar to an Etch-A-Sketch") and says, "Superman!" .... That means, I have to draw a "S" in a diamond so she can admire it, erase it, and ask again. I am no artist. She finds promotional items around the house with his likeness and screams, "SUPERMAN, Joe! SUPERMAN!"... And, yes, I, every so often, have to play Superman. That means, I pick her up, carry her around as if she is flying, and I have to make the Superman theme music as I go around the room. If I don't make the music, she screams. AND, I also have to make faces of alarm as we watch. She makes the faces with me... and I have to say, "Superman will save them." ... The niece reply's, "Superman!" .... heh.... Die, Man of Steal!
